The 62nd Mito Komon Festival in Mito City was held on the 5th at Sannomaru Prefectural Government Office Square in Sannomaru, Mito City. It will be held for the first time in three years due to the influence of the new coronavirus. The brave shouts of the float parade and mikoshi union togyo returned to the prefectural capital, and the venue was bustling with 55,000 people (announced by the organizer), including many families and young people.
At the "Mito Komon Carnival," where participants walk around the venue while dancing, 20 teams put on powerful performances. Dashi floats and mikoshi (portable shrines) circulated, and the venue was filled with excitement. When the sun goes down, a procession with traditional Suifu lanterns walks toward the venue along the white walls and Mito Castle Otemon, creating a magical atmosphere. When the procession arrived at the venue, the excitement reached its climax.
Ms. Junko Tachibana, who participated in the Minamicho 3-chome Shopping District Promotion Association's float parade, said with a smile, "It's been a long time since I've met everyone. It was fun to see everyone. I was able to see the growth of the local children." The festival has been moved from summer to autumn this year to prevent coronavirus and heatstroke.
